Why is clean water such an important issue in Uttarakhand?
Clean water is critical in Uttarakhand because many villages are located in remote, hilly regions where water sources are far away or difficult to access. Families—especially women and children—often walk long distances on steep terrain just to collect water. This not only affects their health but also reduces the time children, particularly girls, can spend in school.
